Hangin' On

Things out there are getting tough for small tutoring centers. In 2007, the center I (Nancy) work at was just about the only tutoring center that served the Korean community. We've a large Korean community here, but it's a small niche. Since 2007, many of the competitors have gone bust or are just about to go under for the last time. Still, the center is surviving. Not flourishing, but surviving. And, if we can do it for long enough, maybe we'll be at the right place to pick up all the students the other tutoring centers are abandoning.

We've got good tutors, we've got a good system and we've got a good name. Boss is a careful man and pays attention to things like bills and business insurance. If he can do it, it will be well done.

Did you know that auto insurance in Georgia is cheaper than it is in Texas? I wonder why. I can understand if it's that cars in Texas were stolen more often than in Georgia.... but I would think that most insurance claims would come in the forms of accidents.

I suppose it's the difference in payouts. If you're damaged in an accident, you keep some value to the car, assuming it's fixable. On the other hand, if your car is stolen, the whole value of the car is lost.

I say car, but it's most often that pickups are stolen in Houston. Maybe that's another reason, as those pickups are often tricked out and worth more than you'd think.

Funny things you discover while perusing the interwebz...

Sittin' Around

Between the two of us, Nancy and I have enough old furniture in storage and at the house to open a discount furniture store, even if only for a few garage sale weekends. This might be the year we actually follow through on our plans and actually have the garage sales. The extra money would be nice and not having to pay for storage would be nicer.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first year we've planned this. We'll just have to see.

We've been getting a round of door to door salesmen trying to sell us wireless security systems. Of course, they have to start their spiel over the loud, enthusiastic barks and bays of our own little security system, Butch and Charles. They're nice dogs, and make friends with people easily, but they can also be a little protective.

We've learned that, when we go to the bark park, it's best to move around a bit, as Chucky and Butch will decide that where we are is our territory and they'll get a little protective. They're most protective of Nancy. She goes there on her scooter most of the time, and doesn't move far when she's not on the scooter. The two dogs don't have any problem with most dogs coming up to her, but, every once in a while... there's a block put on a big dog that might be a little too enthusiastic, and once, when a dog owner was coming up and moving a little too fast, there was even a growl thrown their way.

All in all, they're good dogs.

Buyin' Stuff

It would be good to say that we could buy stuff. We aren't, not so much. However we are always on the lookout for a good sale. We especially like it if the sale is online as it helps not buying gas. The physical factor is there too. Neither of us likes walking much and Nancy is under orders not to place a lot of stress on her knee. Seems the rheumatologist doesn't want to replace the knee if he can help it... so she's getting shots and rest.

Still, she likes shopping, and online is safest. As long as I can keep the credit card out of her hands, she can't buy things.

I hope she hasn't got that card number memorized...

New Duds

Nancy here.

Between 'Pup's weight going up and down, and his new appreciation of, we've been spending a lot more time in clothing stores. When we got married, he'd been buying the same type of pants from the same store for about 10 years. He'd been wearing the same kinds of shirts, one pair of shoes and one color of socks.

You could call his approach sartorial elegance via wholesale clothing.

He's changed a bit now. I've gotten him to wear dark colors... shirts with stripes. Pants that have belt loops and need belts... colored undershirts! more than one pair of shoes!

Change comes... every time we go shopping.

Sew Cornfuzzzed

Gosh I am learning some strange terms where I work and they do not have one iota (also known as a glimmer) of an irrational thought about my line of work. Take for example; linear motion. I would have though that this term was referring to the relationship of one object to another. In this case it has to do with a person's ability of starting a series of tasks done daily and not finishing this entire set before lunch. After lunch a similar set of tasks are done but this time the term used is circular motion.
